MOSCOW — The organizing committee of the 2014 Sochi Games has unveiled the route of its Olympic torch relay that will start a year from now and cover most corners of Russia's vast land mass.

Organizers said Sunday that the relay will be the longest in the history of the Winter Games. The flame will be held by some 14,000 torchbearers over four months and travel through 2,900 towns and settlements, starting on Oct. 7, 2013.

Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov said in July that the relay planned to take in a trip to the International Space Station but no details were announced Sunday.

Sochi organizing committee president Dmitry Chernyshenko said the relay would be an opportunity to “bring the entire country together, highlighting the diversity and beauty of Russia.”
