Ukraine Day has been held in the capital of the 30th Summer Olympics, London.

“The Bosco House cordially welcomed President of the International Olympic Committee Jacques Rogge, IOC members, and the heads of international federations. The holiday was also attended by Ukrainian sports heroes – Olympic champion in weightlifting Oleksiy Torokhtiy, bronze medalists athlete Olha Saladukha, gymnast Ihor Radivilov, prizewinners of the Beijing Olympics, divers Illia Kvasha and Oleksiy Pryhorov, the men’s artistic gymnastics team, as well as coaches Mykhailo Matsekha and Viacheslav Lavrukhin,” the press service of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine reported on Thursday.

Rogge stressed the important role of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine in the international Olympic movement, the work of its president, Serhiy Bubka, and wished the Ukrainian side success in submitting its bid to host the Winter Olympics in 2022.

Bubka, in turn, noted that over the whole period of participation in the Olympics Ukrainian athletes had already won 613 medals, and that this was not the limit.

“This year Ukraine will mark the 60th anniversary of its participation in the Olympics, and we have something to be proud of,” he said.
