Forty Ukrainian citizens who are being held in the Donbas territory not controlled by Kyiv, are listed as 'civilian hostages', a Ukrainian Security Service adviser said.

“Forty people are officially listed as civilian hostages at the present time,” Yuriy Tandyt, an adviser to the Security Service chief, said at a press conference in Kyiv, on Tuesday.

“Moreover, if someone is sent to jail there, we will do our utmost to rescue them, even if we can’t consider them [hostages] officially,” he said.

Twelve Ukrainians are also being held hostage in Russia, Tandyt said, making it understood that Nadia Savchenko is one of these people.

“Officially, 12 people who are illegally being held in Russian territory are hostages. One of them is a servicewoman, and you know her, one Interior Ministry member, whom I won’t name, and ten are civilians,” Tandyt said.
