You're reading: Almost half of Donetsk citizens stand for united Ukraine

The majority of Donetsk citizens support an extension of rights of local government, but don't support federalization or the idea of a Donetsk Republic, according to the results of a poll conducted by the Donetsk Institute of Social Studies and Political Analysis.

As the Internet publication “News of Donbass” reported on Wednesday,
the results of the poll show that a total of 31.6% of Donetsk citizens
want to live in unitary Ukraine with extended regional powers (in the
economy and taxes). The current level of local government powers
satisfies 18.6% of the citizens. They want to live in unitary Ukraine
without any changes in its territorial division.

However, 15.5% of Donetsk citizens support the federalization of
Ukraine with its division into several federal districts. A total of
18.2% of the respondents stand for an international alliance with
Russia, and 8.7% – for being included into the Russian Federation as its
region.

Moreover, the idea of proclaiming an Independent Donetsk Republic was supported by only 4.7% of Donetsk citizens.

The poll was conducted from March 26 until March 29 and featured 500 respondents.
