You're reading: American doctor missing (UPDATED)

Volunteers set off again on the morning of May 17 to search for a missing retired American physician in the Zamkova Hora park in the capital's Podil district, according to his son's blog.

The Kyiv Post earlier had incorrectly reported, citing Greg Sloop’s blog, that local police had joined the search on May 16, when in fact they had not.

Dr. Jay Sloop, 77, of Yakima, Wash. went missing on May 14 after he went for a morning walk in Zamkova Hora park at 7
a.m., but never returned to eat breakfast with friends. Greg Sloop wrote
that “multiple security cameras showed Jay walking toward this park,
and going in, and not coming back out past the cameras.” The doctor’s
grandson, Jeff Sloop, is currently in Kyiv leading the volunteer search. On May 16 he led two other volunteers into the park, a Ukrainian and an American.

Jay Sloop was on a medical mission for the Seventh-day Adventist
Church, for whom he works as health care director at the church’s
regional headquarters in Spokane.
