Vice Premier of Ukraine Oleksandr Vilkul has said that the Arena Lviv stadium won't be dismantled.

“Nobody plans to dismantle the stadium,” he told the journalists in Lviv on Thursday.

However, Vilkul said that “the situation is complicated there.”

Head of Lviv Regional State Administration Viktor Shemchuk asked the media not to spread rumors about plans to dismantle the stadium. He said that the stadium is now being passed to the Youth and Sport Ministry, adding that the authorities in Kyiv and in Lviv region are also looking for ways to ensure the efficient use of this facility in future.

As reported, Arena Lviv was built to host Euro 2012 matches. It opened on October 29, 2011. The stadium can seat 34,915 spectators. The project costs UAH 2.3 billion. In Euro 2012 it earned an 80% positive reference (third place among four stadiums).

The last football match at the stadium took place in the summer of 2012 between Shakhtar and Hoverla. The stadium has not been used since then.

According to stadium’s operation director, Oleksiy Zhukovin, about UAH 20 million is needed annually to maintain Arena Lviv, and for this reason this facility in future will host not just football games, but other events.
