You're reading: Around 45 Ukrainians were onboard sunken Costa Concordia ship

There were around 45 Ukrainian passengers on board the Costa Concordia cruise ship hit a reef off the Italian coast. No Ukrainian was injured, the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, has told Interfax-Ukraine.

“According to the updated information from the Ukrainian Embassy to Italy, there were around 45 Ukrainian passengers on board of the Costa Concordia cruise ship. No Ukrainian was injured,” the press secretary of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Oleksandr Dykusarov, told Interfax-Ukraine.

He said that most of Ukrainians are staying in a hotel near the airport in Rome. Another group of Ukrainian tourists is heading to another hotel near Rome.

Vice consuls of the Ukrainian Embassy have arrived to the hotels.

“Contact with our citizens is being maintained. Those who were onboard the ship in Italy are recommended to get in contact with the Ukrainian Embassy in Rome or Ukrainian Consul in Italy Roman Horiaynov, phone +39 348 725 40 30,” Dykusarov said.

He added that the ministry will monitor the situation and the ministry is staying in contact with local coastguard.
