You're reading: Party of Regions: Europe can slam door in Ukraine’s face due to nationalist tricks by opposition, rather than due to Tymoshenko

Ukraine's path to the European Union could be blocked by the nationalist tricks of some political forces, rather than the question of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, Party of Regions MP Mykhailo Chechetov has said.

“An information wave regarding Mrs. Tymoshenko was created in Ukraine for a lot of money, then dispersed across the country, and then dispersed across Europe for even more money,” the press service of the Party of Regions quoted him as saying.

Chechetov said he was confident that a solution to the problem of the former prime minister would not be an obstacle to the signing of the Association Agreement and the creation of a free trade area with the EU. However, the “propaganda of destructive values” could be such an obstacle, he said.

“Europe is horrified that some extremist political forces represented in the Ukrainian parliament have raised the banner of neo-Nazism, racism and anti-Semitism,” the MP said.

He also added: “The Nazi tricks at the stadium in Lviv, nationalist symbols in parliament on the day when a round table meeting took place with the participation of representatives of the European political beau monde on preparations for the summit Vilnius, and a march along Khreschatyk Street by several thousand fighters and nationalist storm troopers – all that scares Europe.”

In his opinion, a demonstration of neo-Nazi aspirations by opposition members could lead to the Europe slamming the door in Ukraine’s face.
