The Ukrainian government is intending to improve the standards of road construction, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said.

“Now we plan to construct major highways. We need to link all of our
regional centers with good roads, and we want to raise the standard of
road construction,” Azarov said, when discussing the president’s program
of economic reforms with the representatives of the local executive
power bodies and the humanitarian field, in Odesa.

He noted that certain parts of the Kyiv-Odesa international road built in 2004 need overhauls.

“We united Kyiv and Odesa with a road, which was quite good for the
level of 2004. Eight years have passed and it is obvious that it needs
to be repaired. Roads are not built for eight years – they should be
built for 50-100 years, and for that we need to construct roads in the
way they are made in Germany, Switzerland, Austria,” said Azarov.
