You're reading: Azarov criticizes snow removal in Kyiv

Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said that the emergency situation due to heavy snowfalls in Ukraine revealed a number of flaws in the coordination of the capitals services.

The Information and Public Liaisons Department of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine said on Monday that the premier criticized, in particular, the fact that the decision to prohibit entrance to Kyiv for trucks was made too late, and this resulted in a traffic standstill in the city.

“The situation is really extraordinary, even senior citizens don’t remember such a phenomena. Still a storm warning had been issued – but they did not take it seriously enough… The operations to clean up the aftermath of the natural disaster could have been more organized and conscious, and more attention could have been paid to the people – I mean at least informing them about it,” Azarov said at a meeting of the government on march 25, 2013.

Azarov also thanked everyone who worked hard to support the normal life of Kyiv during the weekend, but said that the municipal services’ work was poor.

“However, the work of the ambulances, the transportation of products to hospitals and so on was fine,” he said.
