Ukrainian Premier Mykola Azarov has introduced new Finance Minister Valeriy Khoroshkovsky to the ministry's employees.

"I am strongly convinced that Valeriy Ivanovych will cope with this extremely difficult work of finance minister," reads a posting on the government’s Web site citing Azarov as saying on Thursday.

At the same time, the premier stressed that the Finance Ministry is facing very serious tasks and expressed hope that its new leader would continue effective cooperation with the NBU.

Azarov also praised the work of the previous finance minister, Fedir Yaroshenko, in 2010-2011 in overcoming the crisis and achieving the stabilization of the financial and economic situation in the country.

In turn, Khoroshkovsky said that he was to hold consultations with his deputies and heads of departments on Thursday to explain to them the tasks facing the ministry, as determined by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.

"Before the appointment I had a very serious conversation with the Ukrainian president. Tasks were set that we have to fulfill to achieve our goals, which are very obvious – they are social and economic goals. And I think that with the potential of our employees and assistance of the premier we will carry out these tasks," Khoroshkovsky said.
