Ukrainian Premier Mykola Azarov has ordered Deputy Premier and Social Policy Minister Sergiy Tigipko to consult with representatives of Chornobyl cleanup workers' organizations to take concrete measures to resolve current problems.

According to the department on information and communication with the public of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers, this concerns a fair approach to paying money to people that worked in the immediate area of the Chornobyl catastrophe.

“The government should in future ensure there is an open and constructive dialogue with the Chornobyl cleanup workers to find the best ways to resolve the current issues,” Azarov said during a cabinet meeting.

The Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers noted that on September 21, local citizens of Poltava region asked Azarov during his working visit about the problem of pensions being paid to liquidators that are inadequate in terms of the level of damage done to the health of people working during Chornobyl cleanup operations.
