Ukraine is able to replace all imported dairy products with its own products, Ukrainian Premier Mykola Azarov has said.

“Of course, we’re able to fully replace all imported products on our market with our own products,” he said during a visit to the dairy baby food plant in Vyshneve (Kyiv region) on Thursday.

The premier complained that there had been a sharp reduction in milk production in Ukraine over the past 20 years, and the disproportion in the development of the dairy sector should be eliminated, in particular, between the level of purchase prices of milk and production profitability.

Azarov reminded that dairy products are socially important foodstuff and their prices are regulated by the state.

“The task is to find a compromise between the price of goods on one hand… and on the other hand, producers should be interested in their production and its expansion,” he said.
