Ukraine is currently not discussing giving the Russian language official status, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said.

“We believe we need to proceed according to the situation in the
country. We insist on the adoption of a law giving people living in the
regions where a specific language is widespread the right to study and
turn to public establishments in their native language,” he said in an
interview with the Russian program Pozner.

“If we have declared an intention to become European-oriented, we
need to take the best from Europe. Switzerland has four state languages
and Finland has two,” he said.
