The Ukrainian Emergencies Ministry has formed special task forces to assist citizens if emergency situations arise during the holding of the Euro 2012 European Football Championship, Emergencies Minister Viktor Baloha has said in an interview with the Glavcom online newspaper.

“The Emergencies Ministry started preparing for Euro 2012 in advance, knowing how difficult our task is. We know that UEFA pays special attention to safety when holding the championship. Therefore, the ministry developed and agreed its action plan with Euro 2012 organizers beforehand. Here are a few figures. The specially formed task force of the Emergencies Ministry includes 4,900 people and 1,200 units of special equipment. They are proportionally distributed in the four regions where the matches are taking places,” the ministry’s press service quoted Baloha as saying on Monday.

He also said that the Emergencies Ministry had taken into account the fact that the assistance of rescuers could come in handy on the main highways linking Euro 2012 host cities. Therefore, 600 people and 200 vehicles are working there in case there are road accidents.
