The Batkivschyna Party sees a statement by the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine regarding the possible termination of former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko's treatment in Ukrzaliznytsia's hospital in Kharkiv as "the revenge of the regime of President Viktor Yanukovych" for a video message in which she calls on her compatriots to express their protest against corrupt authorities in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

“The Yanukovych regime has once again shown its bestial face to the
world. The illegal detention of Yulia Tymoshenko is not enough for them,
and they decided to intensify their efforts to implement a criminal
plan to destroy her,” the party said in a statement on Sunday, Sept. 30.

“Prison officials, on the orders of Yanukovych, are planning to
discharge a sick person from Ukrzaliznytsia’s hospital and again hide
Tymoshenko in the Kachanivska colony in order to continue using torture
against her without unnecessary witnesses,” reads the statement.

The ex-premier’s party colleagues said that the prison system in
Ukraine had long since become a Stalinist one, “as there is lawlessness,
and total violation of the rights of all prisoners, not just the
opposition leader.”

“It’s clear for everyone that this is revenge for a video message in
which Yulia Tymoshenko calls on the public to stop in the parliamentary
elections the corrupt regime of Yanukovych, who ignores laws and
destroys people’s rights,” reads the statement.
