Yevhenia Tymoshenko, the daughter of former Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko, and Deputy Head of the Batkivschyna Party Hryhoriy Nemyria met with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso during the congress of the European People's Party (EPP) in Bucharest.

According to the press service of the Batkivschyna Party, Yevhenia Tymoshenko briefed Barroso on the health state of her mother.

In turn, Barroso asked Yevhenia to pass his warmest wishes to the
ex-premier and said: “We think about you. We have done and will keep
doing everything we can to release you. We will insist on your complete
political rehabilitation.”

During the meeting, Nemyria and Barroso also exchanged their opinions about the election campaign in Ukraine.

“The elections and development of the situation with political
prisoners in Ukraine are a trial of your country’s commitment to
European values,” Barroso said.

On October 11, 2011, Pechersky District Court in Kyiv sentenced
Tymoshenko to seven years in prison for abuse of office in signing gas
contracts with Russia in 2009. She has served her sentence in
Kachanivska Penal Colony in Kharkiv since late December 2011.
