On November 4, 2009 the BILLA food store will be opened in the Besarabsky market in Kyiv, the press service of Kyiv city state administration has reported.

The food store will replace the central food department, which premises were privatized.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on November 4, and buyers will buy their first products at the store on November 5.

“From first days of work of Kyiv Mayor Leonid Chernovetsky and his
team, Kyiv authorities paid attention to complains of citizens
regarding the closure of the central food department in 2004 located in
Khreschatyk Street opposite the Central Department Store TSUM,” first
deputy head of Kyiv city state administration, Irena Kilchytska, said.

“Unfortunately, the premises were privatized in such a way that legally it is impossible to cancel the privatization,” she said.

“Despite this fact, the central food store will again appear downtown Kyiv in the premises of the Besarabsky market,” she said.

BILLA-Ukraine (Kyiv) bought the rights to rent the premise for five
years for UAH 3 million from Kyiv City State Administration at an
auction in February 2009.

“We planned that the central food store will be opened by Day of
Kyiv, but due to crisis and some unbiased factors, the opening of the
store was postponed,” Kilchytska said.
