A Ukrainian court rejected the appeal of jailed opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko, upholding a seven-year prison sentence that has opened a rift between the former Soviet republic and the West, according to Bloomberg BusinessWeek report. 

The High Specialized Court for Civil and Criminal Cases in the capital, Kyiv, announced today that lower court rulings convicting the former premier for abuse of office “are lawful and justified.” The verdict comes a day after the European Court of Human Rights began its own hearing into the case.
