Ukraine needs to prepare more than 200,000 houses, almost 24,000 boiler houses, repair and replace 2,200 boilers, and 2,000 kilometers of water supply, heating, and sewage systems to prepare for the 2012-2013 heating season.

As of the beginning of September, housing and utility facilities are
90% ready for the heating season, Regional Development, Construction,
Housing and Utilities Minister Anatoliy Blyzniuk said at a briefing in
Kyiv on Wednesday.

According to Blyzniuk, the heating season in social and cultural
facilities, such as schools and hospitals, starts on October 1, and in
residential houses and administrative buildings on October 15, 2012.

Crimea, Donetsk, Lviv, Luhansk, Kherson and Chernihiv regions are
currently slightly behind schedule in their preparations for the heating
season, the minister said.

Blyzniuk said that the government set up an inter-departmental
working group in charge of preparations for the 2012-2013 heating
season, which is lead by him.

Starting from September 15, the group will hold meetings, at which
regional officials will be invited to address the problems that arise.
