You're reading: Brilliant green sprayed over Ukraine opposition leaders in Kharkiv

Unknown persons threw brilliant green, an antiseptic solution, at the chairman of Ukraine's opposition Batkivschyna (Fatherland) faction, Arseniy Yatseniuk, and his first deputy Oleksandr Turchynov in the lobby of Kharkiv's Hospital No.5, where they visited former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

The second attempt to pour brilliant green over the opposition leaders was made as they left the clinic.

One of the attackers managed to escape, leaving behind a carrier bag
containing some 15 vials of the antiseptic and a plastic spray bottle.

The second suspect was detained by police.

Turchynov and Yatseniuk refused to give a press briefing following the incident.

Head of Batkivschyna party Aseniy Yatsenyuk speaks to journalists after he was attacked and doused with medical brilliant green by two unknown persons after he left the Central Clinical Hospital in Kharkiv on Feb. 12, 2014.

Brilliant green has been spayed over Tymoshenko’s lawyer, Serhiy Vlasenko, in Kharkiv several times.

Brilliant green was thrown in the face of the Batkivschyna Party’s
parliamentary candidate Oleksandr Kirsh as he met with voters in Kharkiv
on Sept. 19, 2012. Kirsh was subsequently admitted to the city’s
Ophthalmological Hospital No. 14 with a chemical burn to his eye.

A similar incident occurred to 3rd Ukrainian Republic movement leader
Yuriy Lutsenko and his wife – MP Iryna Lutsenko – during their visit to
Kharkiv to attend a pro-European Union protest in the city.

Brilliant green was also sprayed over Batkivschyna parliamentarian
Arsen Avakov outside a court building that hosted proceedings in the
case of Tymoshenko’s alleged financial abuse at the Unified Energy
Systems of Ukraine.
