You're reading: Central Election Commission not fully prepared for Rada elections

The Central Election Commission (CEC) hasn't fully prepared for the elections to the Verkhovna Rada due to the parliament's decision to install Web cameras at all the polling stations, CEC head Volodymyr Shapoval has said.

“There is a new circumstance – they have legally settled the issue of
organizing the so-called video surveillance of the election. I haven’t
studied a relevant law in detail yet, because it hasn’t been signed by
the president, though they hint that this may happen soon. With this
additional circumstance in mind, I cannot say we are one hundred percent
ready for the elections at the moment,” Shapoval said in an interview
with Kommersant-Ukraine, published on July 24.

He noted that under the law, the CEC should manage a total of Hr 996 million of budget funds to set up the video surveillance.

The elections to the Verkhovna Rada are scheduled for October 28.

The election campaign starts on July 30.
