You're reading: Central Election Commission saves Hr 31 million on parliamentary elections

UAH 1.011 billion was spent on the October 28, 2012 parliamentary elections in Ukraine, which is UAH 31.35 million less than envisaged for this purpose in the country's state budget, the press service of the Central Election Commission (CEC) has reported.

At a meeting on Wednesday, the commission approved a report on the
use of state budget funds allocated for the parliamentary elections in
Ukraine. This document was submitted to the Accounting Chamber.

“According to the report, the budget funds [for the elections],
taking into account changes to the law of Ukraine on Ukraine’s state
budget for 2012 as of December 31, 2012, amounted to UAH 1,042,400,000.
Cash expenditures amounted to UAH 1,011,049,034. Thus, there was a
remainder of funds in the amount of UAH 31,350,966, which was returned
to the state budget after the end of the budget period,” reads the
statement.

The funds were saved at the expense of the payment for media services
(print space and air time) due to the fact that the number of
registered parliamentary candidates in single-member constituencies was
much lower than expected in the calculations.

As reported, the parliamentary elections in Ukraine were held on
October 28, 2012. A total of 445 MPs were elected to a 450-seat
parliament. The CEC found it impossible to establish the election
results in five single-member constituencies.
