The health of those hospitalized after an Aug. 11 gas explosion in a residential building in Luhansk has improved, although one child is still in a coma, according to the Web site of Luhansk Regional State Administration. 

As of Monday morning, one of the injured children is in a coma, while the others are getting better. They received all the necessary medical assistance, Luhansk Mayor Serhiy Kravchenko said.

Kravchenko added that the preliminary estimate of the damages caused by the household gas explosion was Hr 2.5 million. However, the final assessment of the damage will be made by an investigating commission and a decision will be made then about the amount of financial assistance, which will be provided to those affected by the explosion. The funerals of the two people killed in the accident will be paid for by the city council.

Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said earlier that all those affected by the explosion will be provided financial assistance, and the matter of the reconstruction of the house will be resolved soon.

As reported, the bodies of two people were found under the debris of the collapsed building in Luhansk after a gas explosion occurred on Aug. 11. The Emergency Situations Service reported that four adults and two children were found alive under the debris. Seven adults and three children, including a severely injured 12-year-old girl, were taken to city hospitals. Sixty tenants were evacuated.

Meanwhile, the Web site of Luhansk Regional Administration reported that 18 people were injured. They are receiving medical attention and the house tenants are being temporarily accommodated at Luhansk hotels and dormitories.
