You're reading: Court announces one-week break in hearing of Lutsenko case

Kyiv's Pechersky District Court has postponed the hearing of a criminal case against former Ukrainian Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko until Dec. 12 due to an illness of his former driver, Leonid Prystupliuk.

One of Prystupliuk’s lawyers said at a court session on Monday that his client would undergo inpatient medical treatment until Friday.

In addition, doctors are to decide on Monday whether Prystupliuk needs surgery.

Lutsenko, in turn, said that representatives of the prosecutor’s office were to blame for the illness of his former driver.

He called on them "to repent in church," because Prystupliuk was earlier taken from hospital by the Ukrainian Interior Ministry’s domestic security service on the order of the prosecutor’s office, without giving him any chance to undergo a complete course of medical treatment, and in this connection his illness worsened.

The next court session is scheduled for 09.10 on Dec. 12.

On Nov. 28, Prystupliuk was hospitalized from the courtroom. According to his lawyers, his kidney disease worsened.

Lutsenko and his driver Leonid Prystupliuk were charged on Dec.13, 2010 with the large-scale misappropriation of state owned assets, abuse of power and document forgery.
