Ukrainian parliament's commissioner for human rights Nina Karpachova believes that the court debate in the criminal case against former acting defense minister Valeriy Ivaschenko on Monday in an escort room of Pechersky District Court in Kyiv was held with gross violations of human rights.

"It is the first time I see the hearing take place in an escort room in Ukraine. Of course, this is a gross violation of human rights. Two defendants were in the convoy room, one was lying, this was Valeriy Ivaschenko, and another one – Serhiy Mikheyev – was in the so-called glass cage. They were in the escort room for five hours, with no access to bathrooms, without water, as were all the rest – judges, prosecutors, defense lawyers," Karpachova told reporters after the court session Monday.
