Ivano-Frankivsk - The Ivano-Frankivsk District Administrative Court on Tuesday suspended an April 25, 2013 resolution by the Ivano-Frankivsk City Council banning the display of symbols of nonexistent or unrecognized states.

The Ivano-Frankivsk regional prosecutor’s office reported on Tuesday that it had earlier filed a motion with the court on suspending this resolution.

By passing this resolution, the City Council recommended not using symbols of nonexistent or unrecognized states or military units during national holidays in the city and declared May 9 a day of mourning for the WWII casualties.

After examining this resolution, the prosecutor’s office found that it ran counter to the Ukrainian law ‘On Commemoration of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945’ and the law ‘On Local Self-Government in Ukraine’.

The hearing of the administrative case on its merits has been scheduled for May 23, 2013.
