You're reading: Criminal case on beating of Svoboda’s member of parliament opened

Criminal proceedings related to beating of MP of Svoboda faction Andriy Ilyenko and a lawyer Sydir Kizin have been launched, the Segondnya.ua publication reported, referring to spokesperson of the Kyiv's chief department of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine Olha Bilyk.

She said that the incident was categorized in line with Part 2 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (hooliganism) and the information was put on the state register of pretrial investigations. The victims were sent to the hospital to get examination by doctors, who will present their conclusions regarding the victims’ injuries.

The chief department confirmed MP Ilyenko submitted a claim regarding the incident.

Bilyk said that the lawmaker wrote in the claim that he got beaten not far from Maidan Nezalezhnosti Square and he arrived to the territorial department of the Interior Ministry in Prorizna Street to submit the claim.

The circumstances of the incident are being investigated.
