Ambassador Frank Ngozi Isoh is Nigeria's new ambassador to Ukraine. Though he is yet to present his letter of credence to the Ukrainian president, he shares some of his observations concerning Nigerians living and doing business in Ukraine with Daily Trust in this interview held in Nigeria House, Kyiv, Ukraine.
What interests does Nigeria share with Ukraine that could foster bilateral relations?
In diplomacy, there is always something to take back home so to
speak. When you enter into relations with a country, it is because there
is something you have identified that you can benefit from having that
relationship. It was on this basis that the government decided in 2000
to open a mission here in Kiev. The driving motive was to see how we can
expand existing relationship between the two countries particularly
when Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union, you would recall that the
Ajaokuta Steel mill was built by them and the bulk of the technicians
that came to build it came from this part of the then Soviet Union. So
we have for a long time had a relationship with Ukraine and we felt that
having a mission here will help to deepen that relationship.
