You're reading: Death toll from Luhansk region mine explosion rises to 27

Luhansk, August 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A miner injured in the July 29 deadly blast at the Sukhodilska-Skhidna coal mine in Luhansk region has died in hospital, the press secretary of the private JSC Krasnodonvuhillia which runs the mine, Iryna Poliakova, has said.

The death toll from the explosion has now grown to 27.

A methane-air mixture explosion took place at the depth of 915 meters in the early hours of July 29.

Twenty-eight people were working in this section of the mine at the time of the explosion.

One miner who survived the blast is currently in intensive care.
