Police has opened an internal investigation into the publication of the video from journalist Pavel Sheremet's place of murder in the media and social networks, Head of the National Police of Ukraine Khatia Dekanoidze has said.

“We are investigating the crime. Firstly, if the video was received from law enforcement officers, we will necessarily conduct an internal investigation. It is already underway. I gave the command to the chief Kyiv police to start internal investigation. Secondly, I want to say that if any information about the investigation gets into the media, it means that the investigation will automatically go back. Any public information, which contains investigation details and is discussed by people, impedes the investigation,” Dekanoidze said on the 112 Ukraine TV Channel.

The main task of law enforcement agencies is impartial and prompt investigation of the resonant case, the head of the national police said. “Our most important task and responsibility is to investigate the crime objectively and within the shortest possible time. So, such leaks of information prevent investigating the case,” Dekanoidze said.

Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko, on Friday, July 22, said there were a few people in the investigation view who can be involved in the murder of the journalist. According to him, the killer was not alone, “this is a group, and the part of this group can be seen on the video.”

A video recording of surveillance cameras appeared earlier in one of the online publications and was made a few hours before Sheremet’s murder. It is concluded that an explosive device was put under the car, which the journalist was driving the next day, installed by a woman who had an accomplice.

A well-known journalist Pavel Sheremet was killed in a car explosion in Kyiv downtown on July 20. The car belonged to Ukrainska Pravda chief Olena Prytula, but she was not onboard.
