Sloviansk thermal power plant, which is part of PJSC Donbasenergo, is facing a critical situation as a result of military operations in the east of Ukraine, the company's press service reported on July 3.

The plant’s central coal pulverizing plant was significantly damaged during a military operation on July 2. Two auxiliary transformers were damaged and caught fire and the thermal power plant’s main building was ruined on July 3. A shell fragment hit a 2,000-tonne tank with boiler oil, which caused a fuel leak.

The damages resulted into the power outage of the remaining overhead power lines in operation, namely 330 kV lines between Sloviansk thermal power plant and Zmiyivska thermal power plants, and 220 kV lines between Sloviansk thermal power plant and Kramatorsk-based casting and forging plant.

Donbasenergo operates Starobesheve and Sloviansk thermal power plants, which have a total installed capacity of 2.88 GW.

Privately owned Energoinvest Holding on August 21, 2013 won a tender to privatize 60.773% in Donbasenergo paying Hr 718.93 million for the stake. The starting price was set at Hr 641 million. Another 25% in the company belongs to national joint-stock company Energy Company of Ukraine.
