You're reading: European Commission doesn’t know yet details of Ukrainian delegation’s visit to discuss association deal

The European Commission has said that today it's difficult to say how to fulfill the agreements recently achieved by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and European Commission President Jose Manual Barroso that the EC will accept the Ukrainian delegation to discuss implementation of the Association Agreement.

Spokesperson of the European Commission Simon O’Connor said this during a briefing in Brussels on Tuesday.

“We don’t know yet when [the talks] will take place and who will
represent the EU in these talks, but one point was made very clear by
president of the EC [Barroso] – that it should not be a reopening of any
kind of negotiations, and the discussions should be focused on the
aspects of implementation of the Association Agreement. This is where
are we’re standing now and now through appropriate diplomatic channels
we’ll decide how to find an opportunity to have this discussion,”
O’Connor said.

According to him, the phone conversation between Yanukovych and Barroso lasted 30 minutes.

As reported, on December 2, during a telephone call, the presidents
agreed that the European Commission would accept a Ukrainian delegation
to discuss several aspects of the Association Agreement, including the
deep and comprehensive free trade area.
