You're reading: No one injured in new fire outbreak near Kyiv

Two fires broke out at the BRSM-Nafta oil depot near Vasylkiv on Saturday: one on the ground, as a result of a fuel leak from a container which lost pressure; the second is a tank that has caught fire, Mykola Chechetkin, the head of Ukraine's State Emergency Service, has said.

“Currently, we have two fire sources: a 900-cubic meter container and one on the ground. The fire source on the ground will be put out shortly. As for the fire on the 900-cubic meter tank, we will be watching it. Once the threat of a repeat explosion is gone, we will put it out,” he told reporters on Saturday. He said no one was hurt as a result of this self-ignition.

“There is no threat of fire spread onto the grounds of the KLO base and the military unit,” the official stressed.Asked whether there is a threat of a repeat explosion, he said “the threat of an explosion still remains. But we hope that when this threat is diminished, we will be able to put out the fire at this 900-cubic meter container.”
