Myrhorod, August 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Entrepreneurs have allocated Hr 2.5 million to prepare for the National Sorochynska Fair 2011, the manager of the project, Svitlana Svischeva, told journalists on Wednesday.

According to her, the funds were used to build fences around the fairground and equip it with the necessary sanitary facilities.

"We’ve invested Hr 2.5 million in the fair. The tasks which we set for this year have been completed," Svischeva said.

She added that the fair’s infrastructure is being developed using commercial funds, and no state money has been spent.

"The state authorities aren’t able to visit the fair. We expected [Premier] Mykola Azarov to come, but it turned out that he had more important affairs. We’re updating the schedule for him to come at the end of the fair," the head of the Poltava Regional State Administration, Oleksandr Udovychenko, told journalists.

He said that President Viktor Yanukovych didn’t plan to visit the fair this year, although he has previously visited the Sorochynska Fair three times.

As a correspondent of the Interfax agency reported, Udovychenko and Head of the Regional Council Ivan Momot, as well as the heads of regional and village councils, participated in the opening ceremony of the fair.

Udovychenko cut a giant round loaf made from this year’s harvest grain, which, due to its size, made it into the Ukrainian Book of Records.

"Nineteen countries from all over the world visited the fair. The number of participants was the same as in the previous year, about 1,000 people. The majority of the branches of Ukrainian industry are represented by industrial enterprises and private entrepreneurs presented all [kinds of] consumer goods. The work of all the directions of decorative and applied arts from all the regions of Ukraine may be viewed in two camps at the fair," the fair’s press release reads.

From Aug. 16 the Annual National Sorochynska Fair will be held in the village of Sorochyntsi (Poltava region). It will end on Aug. 21.

Three hundred and fifteen enterprises and 337 private entrepreneurs are taking part in the fairm at which 240 entrepreneurs are selling national products.
