Brussels - The European Union is actively involved in preparations for a four-party meeting involving the United States, Russia , the EU and Ukraine to resolve the protracted political crisis.

Maja Kocijancic, spokeswoman for European foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, said this in Brussels on Tuesday.

“The EU is actively involved in diplomatic efforts, trying to
de-escalate the crisis. We are working on preparations for such a
meeting,” she said.

Kocijancic again refrained from assessing what is happening in the
southeastern regions of Ukraine, noting that Brussels “is assessing the
situation.”

“We support the territorial integrity, unity and independence of
Ukraine, and we call against any kind of further destabilization,” said
the representative of the European Commission.
