Brussels – The agenda of the forthcoming EU-Ukraine summit will be discussed at a meeting of permanent representatives of the EU member states on Thursday, Permanent Representative of Ireland to the EU, Ambassador Rory Montgomery, said while answering a question from Interfax-Ukraine.

At a conference dedicated to the priorities of the Irish Presidency of the EU in Brussels on Monday, Montgomery stressed that the relations between Ukraine and the EU were very important for both sides.

Ukraine is an extremely important country, the ambassador said.

Montgomery noted that the EU clearly stated its position in its conclusions, which were adopted in December. The prospects for the signing of the Association Agreement depend on Ukraine’s progress in resolving those issues that have caused concern to the EU, he said.

He said Brussels does want to build a partnership with Ukraine, and believes that this is in the interests of both the Ukrainian people and the EU.

The Ukraine-EU summit will be held in Brussels on Feb. 25.
