Kharkiv, August 17 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The fan zone for the Euro 2012 European Football Championship on Kharkiv's Independence Square will seat 45,000 fans, the director of the Department on preparations for Euro 2012, Natalia Miroshnychenko, has told journalists.

She said that initially the zone was to have hosted from 70,000 to 75,000 fans, but the number of seats was reduced because of safety requirements.

"The fan zone has an area of 22,250 square meters, and safety rules require no more than two people per square meter. Three people represent peak load, and four could cause emergencies. That’s why we had to restrict the number to 45,000 people," Miroshnychenko said.

According to her, the fan zone will be also equipped with a stage and three screens, which UEFA will set up.
