All matches of the Euro 2012 football championship should be held in the previously chosen countries and in the earlier approved format despite the political situation surrounding Ukraine, FIFA President Joseph Blatter said.

Political leaders should primarily bear sports values in mind, Blatter was quoted by the Ukraine-2012 Information Center as saying at a symposium in St. Gallen, Switzerland.

When they speak about ignoring the European football championship, they need to think about what consequences their decisions will entail, he said.
Euro 2012 should take place where initially planned, Blatter said.

Football serves to unite people, he said.

Several European political figures called for a boycott of Euro 2012, co-hosted by Ukraine and Poland, in protest over the treatment of Tymoshenko in prison.
