You're reading: European Commission calls solvable problems deriving from EU-Ukraine free trade accord

Brussels - Russia-Ukraine trade problems highlighted in the context of the EU-Ukraine association agreement result from the political conflict rather than the other way around, said European Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht, who had taken part in the Minsk meeting between the Customs Union leaders and Ukraine.

He said it was possible to find a solution to the so-called trade implications of the EU-Ukraine Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) and the issue was being discussed. The technical process continues, and the sides will meet again on a political level in Brussels on Sept. 12, de Gucht told reporters in Minsk on Aug. 26 evening.

He stressed that a political solution to the conflict was most important and he was glad that the Ukrainian and Russian presidents had finally met.
