The updated wording of the national budget for 2014 foresees an allocation of $2.16 billion to pay for imported gas, Finance Minister Oleksandr Shlapak has said.

Russian Deputy Energy Minister Anatoly Yanovsky reported
on Russia’s readiness to discuss lowering gas prices for Ukraine in
case of debt repayment.

“Our fundamental position is if the Russians are ready by the end of
this year to keep the price of gas at $268.50 (per 1,000 cubic meters),
we will pay for gas immediately,” he said at a briefing.

“The corresponding sum is foreseen. The matter concerns bonds we [the
cabinet] will issue for this purpose. Naftogaz will be able to buy
necessary amount [of currency] and pay,” Shlapak said.
