You're reading: Foreign Ministry: Cooperation with US remains a priority of Ukraine’s foreign policy

The latest draft resolution on Ukraine does not reflect the opinion of all members of the U.S. Senate and relations with Washington remain a priority of Kyiv's foreign policy, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday, Sept. 20.

“The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry notes that the Ukraine-related draft
statement quoted by the Ukrainian media does not reflect the position of
the entire U.S. Senate. It took the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign
Relations just nine minutes to confirm 11 different documents, including
the draft statement dealing with Ukraine, without any debate involving
committee members during yesterday’s session. Consequently, this draft
document reflects only the position of its two authors, who are known
for their feelings toward the Ukrainian opposition,” the ministry said.

Ukraine continues vigorously cooperating with the United States in a
wide variety of areas, including nuclear disarmament, trade and business
relations and the fight against international terrorism, which was
mentioned in a commentary of U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for
European and Eurasian Affairs Philip Gordon, it said.

“The Foreign Ministry stresses that cooperation with the United
States will remain a priority of Ukraine’s foreign policy in the
future,” it said.

The U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations unanimously adopted a
draft resolution co-authored by Senators James Inhofe and Richard
Durbin, demanding that former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko
be released from prison.
