The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine and Ukrainian foreign diplomatic agencies have started issuing biometric passports for traveling abroad to Ukrainian citizens who permanently live and temporarily stay abroad.

The information policy department of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine has reported that the issue of the documents was started on June 7, 2013 as a part of the implementation of the action plan on liberalization of the visa regime by the European Union for Ukrainian and as a part of the realization of the law on the state demographic register and documents confirming Ukrainian citizenship, indentifying the person or his/her special status.

The press service of the ministry said that Ukrainian citizens who submitted an application to register passports in the Ukrainian Embassy to Moldova and the Ukrainian Consulate in Balti could receive them next week.

“In the near term, all new passports will be transferred to the Ukrainian diplomatic agencies abroad to issue them to Ukrainian citizens,” the ministry said.

The ministry also said that as of today, 90 diplomatic agencies of Ukraine have the required equipment for issuing new passports.
