You're reading: Foreign Ministry: Ukraine will actively fight human trafficking while chairing OSCE in 2013

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryschenko has discussed bilateral cooperation prospects with U.S. Senators during a visit to the United States.

According to the ministry’s press service, on November 30 Hryschenko met with Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Richard Lugar. The officials discussed the current state of bilateral cooperation, as well as important issues related to international security and nonproliferation and disarmament.

The U.S. Senator said that the United States wants to see its friend and strategic partner Ukraine a strong and prosperous country.

On the same day, the Ukrainian minister met with a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Chairman of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (U.S. Helsinki Commission) Chris Smith.

The officials discussed cooperation between Ukraine and the U.S. in the sphere of combating human trafficking.

Hryschenko stressed that Ukraine will actively use its chairmanship in the OSCE in 2013 in order to fight this global challenge. The sides also exchanged views on introduction of new joint projects in the sphere of healthcare and social rehabilitation.

Hryschenko visited the U.S. on November 30-December 1, 2012 to participate in the international conference entitled “Ukraine in Washington 2012” on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of the Ukrainian independence referendum.

The conference was held for the second time in Washington. It was organized by the U.S.-Ukraine Foundation with the assistance of the Embassy of Ukraine.
