Ukraine is waiting from Russia to take steps to de-escalate the situation in Donbas, otherwise, it will ask the international community to apply the next wave of sanctions, Acting Foreign Minister of Ukraine Andriy Deschytsia has said.

“If Russia at the highest political level doesn’t facilitate the
de-escalation of the situation in the east [of Ukraine], then there is
nothing left for us to do but to call on the whole of the international
community to apply new pressure – new sanctions against Russia. Because,
unfortunately, Russia understands just words of force and reacts only
when one speaks with it as an equal, or by using force,” Deschytsia said
at the press conference in Kyiv on June 12.

He said that the Ukrainian side still expects Russia to fulfill the
obligations it undertook at the Geneva talks, as well as the promises
voiced by Russian President Vladimir Putin during his last visit to
France.

“We hope Russia will promote implementation of the peace plan for the
settlement of the situation in the eastern regions [of Ukraine],” the
minister said.

According to the minister, Russia should stop supporting terrorism to
allow the successful settlement of the situation in the east of
Ukraine.

“We must stop the tanks, which now are coming, armored KAMAZ
vehicles, armed militants in the eastern regions of Ukraine. If these
[things] stop, then, I think there all chances and possibilities that
the plan offered by the president could be implemented. If Russia issues
a demand in response to a demand – that would be a difficult path to a
compromise,” Deschytsia said.
