Gazprom is delaying the introduction of pre-payment by Ukraine for gas by another day, from June 9 to June 10, because June 9 is a public holiday in Ukraine, Gazprom said in a press release.

The statement followed talks between Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller and his counterpart at Naftogaz Ukrainy, Andriy Kobolev.

“A wide range of issues related to bilateral gas cooperation was discussed,” Gazprom said.

Gazprom said Ukraine owed $4.455 billion for gas, including $1.454
billion for Nov.-Dec. 2013 and $3 billion for April-May 2014.

“In keeping with the contract, due to chronic non-payments, it was
decided to convert Naftogaz Ukrainy to pre-payment from the beginning of
June this year. On June 2, Naftogaz settled debt for the first quarter
of 2014, paying $786 million. Due to this, pre-payment was delayed until
June 9,” Gazprom said.
