The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine has said that having signed the Minsk protocol, Russia has pledged to comply with the agreements.

“Russia is a direct party and signatory to the agreements reached, which places direct responsibility on Russia for the compliance with the Minsk agreements,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis said at a briefing in Kyiv on Sept. 9.

He said that the principal aim of the signed protocol was to stop the bloodshed and create conditions for the settlement of the situation in Donetsk and Luhansk region.

According to him, apart from the bilateral ceasefire and the release of hostages, further efforts of the trilateral contact group will be aimed at regaining control of the border, withdrawal of Russian troops, military equipment and militants from the territory of Ukraine, as well as the removal of barriers to the delivery of humanitarian aid to Ukraine’s east.
