You're reading: Health Ministry: 18 people freeze to death in Ukraine

Since the start of the cold snap, a total of 18 people had died in Ukraine from hypothermia and frostbite as of 8 a.m. on Monday, Dec.17 including 12 on the streets, the Health Ministry's press service has told Interfax-Ukraine. 

Three more people died in hospitals and three in their homes.

A total of 133 people asked for medical assistance, and 108 of them were hospitalized.

Most people died in Volyn region (three people) dying outside, and three more died in Kyiv region (one each in the street, at hospital and at home).

Most people requested the assistance in Donetsk, Lviv and Luhansk regions – 36, 13 and 12 respectively.

Earlier reports said that six people had died in Ukraine from hyperthermia as of Friday.
