You're reading: Herman: Talks with 1+1 journalists were constructive

Deputy Presidential Administration Head Hanna Herman said her meeting with the staff of the 1+1 TV Channel was constructive.

"We had atalk. In my opinion, we understood each other. The talk was sincere and frank," she said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine on Friday.

She noted this was her second meeting with the staff.

According to her, during the meeting it was discovered that part of the problem was simply due to a misunderstanding.

"There was only an idea, while the problem didn’t actually exist," Herman said.

At the same time, she added such a talk with journalist team about the principles of democracy and freedom of speech was necessary.

She said that any TV channel, national or private, must follow the standards of journalism and freedom or speech.

As reported, journalists said that they had been banned from "covering certain topics and events."

"Stories critical of the current government are not being broadcast for political reasons. A final decision on the broadcast of our products is taken by 1+1’s director general, rather than the editor of the issue or the Television News Service (TSN) chief editor," they said.

The letter was signed by 11 correspondents and four TSN news presenters.
