Hungary is interested in the peaceful coexistence of people of different nationalities in Zakarpattia Oblast, Hungarian Ambassador to Ukraine Erno Keskeny has said.

“In connection with the official assistance of Hungary, we can observe that some people are trying to draw parallels between Zakarpattia, Crimea and Donbas saying there are similar phenomena in theses areas. We think it is absolutely wrong and a totally different situation unfolded on these territories. We are interested in the peaceful coexistence of different nationalities in Zakarpattia to be continued in the future,” the ambassador said in an exclusive interview to Interfax-Ukraine.

According to the ambassador, the program of facilitated citizenship obtaining provides for citizenship obtaining by people who have Hungarian origin.

“The program of facilitated obtain or return of Hungarian citizenship is not aimed against Ukraine. It applies to countries all over the world. We provide a simplified return of their own Hungarian citizenship, or a simplified return of the citizenship of their ancestors for those people who live anywhere in the world outside Hungary, but consider themselves Hungarians and can confirm that their ancestors were Hungarians, that is, they lived on the historical territory of Hungary,” Keskeny said.

He said Zakarpattia region is inhabited by 150,000 of ethnic Hungarians.
